Daniel Judson Goodwin, 52, of Beverly, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, Florida, with his beloved wife Trish (Harris) at his side.
Dan was born in Manchester, MA, and was the son of Donald and Lucille Goodwin. He attended Manchester schools, graduating with the Class of 1977. After attending the University of Vermont, Dan enjoyed a 30 year career working for, and eventually co-owning, Hall & Emslie Landscaping of Manchester.
Dan was active in the community working for many years on the Manchester Fourth of July Committee, and in the early 1980s helped to build the enormous bonfires on the harbor that signaled the start of the holiday. He was a member of the Manchester Bath and Tennis Club. He was also a member of the Manchester Club and was recently recognized for 25 years as a member. Dan achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in his early years and maintained close ties with Boy Scout Troop 3 of Manchester.
Dan loved New England and spent a lot of time in the mountains of Vermont and along the coast of Maine. He was a great skier, and particularly loved Sugarloaf Mountain. There were also many trips with the guys to Florida for football games and to Saratoga for the horse races. Dan loved music of all types and had the good fortune to see many legendary bands over the years. He loved the ocean, lobsters, oysters & sushi. Dan was known as “Big Dan” to his friends. He had a quick smile, a big heart, and was a kind and gentle man.
In addition to his wife and parents, he leaves his beloved dog Amos Winter, sister Lee Goodwin Schwarzmann and family of Berkeley CA, aunt Anne Mesgar, cousins David Mesgar & Betsy McDonough Brown, and Trish’s mother and sisters. He was predeceased by his uncle Gene McDonough.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, at 11 am at the First Parish Church Congregational in Manchester. Donations may be made in his memory to:
