Marblehead — Graham R. MacKenzie, 84, of Marblehead, a retired Swampscott Fire Captain, passed away at his home on March 20, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Gertrude “Trudy” (Hall) MacKenzie, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Swampscott, Graham was the son of the late, Robert and Bernetta May (Moore) MacKenzie. In 1946, he graduated from Swampscott High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served at the end of World War II. In 1952, Graham began his career as a Swampscott firefighter.
After 35 years in the Fire Department, he retired at the rank of Captain and began working at the Peabody Museum of Salem. In his spare time, he was a member of the Philanthropic Lodge in Swampscott, the Aleppo Temple Shrine, and a member of the Oriental Band for many years. Known for his gregarious spirit, Graham loved starting conversations with people wherever he went. He also enjoyed summers in Maine, watching his grandchildren's sports games and performances, reading and sharing stories from the newspaper, and being a member of the men’s walking group at Liberty Tree Mall. Graham loved his family fiercely and lived by the motto, “peace, love, and togetherness.”
