Beverly — Roland F. Blanchard of Beverly, formerly of Reading, died at his home on February 13, 2013. He was 83 years of age. Born in Winthrop, on August 13, 1929, he was the son of the late, Matthew and Cecilia (Bezanson) Blanchard.
Roland practiced as an Optometrist in Reading for 39 years and Beverly for 17. He was the past president of the Middlesex District Society of Optometrists and past president of the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists and a life member of the American Optometric Assoc. He was also a member and past president of the Reading Kiwanis. An avid piper, he was a member of Clan MacPherson Pipes and Drums in Andover and Creagan More Pipes and Drums in Gloucester.
Roland was the beloved husband of Florence (Jones) Blanchard; devoted father of Tom Blanchard and his wife, Annmarie of Methuen, Carol Ann Desjarlais and her husband, Dan of Bridgewater, William Blanchard and his wife, Cindy of Methuen, and Andrew Blanchard and his wife, Rachel of Dracut; loving grandfather of Nicole and Bianca Desjarlais, Brendan and Michelle Blanchard, Meghan and Ashley Blanchard.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours Sunday, February 17, at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.), Reading, from 4-7 p.m. Services and burial are private.
