Methuen — George E. Garland, 78, of Methuen, formerly of Peabody, Mass., passed away on Tuesday, February 25, surrounded by his family at Merrimack Hospice House, Haverhill. George was the son of Sherman E. Garland and Roberta B. (Kelland) Garland.
George graduated from Saugus High School and spent three years in the service of his country. He retired after 41 years as a Video Specialist from the Textron Systems Division in Wilmington, Mass. His passion in life was divided between music, sailing and bicycling. He served the Salem Willows Yacht Club in Salem, Mass., as the Financial Secretary for 25 years. He was a 50-year member of The Tyrian-Acacia Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Gloucester and was a Past Patron of Heard Chapter No. 94, Order of the Eastern Star in Ipswich.
George is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia A. (Wilkins) Garland of Methuen; his children, Christopher E. Garland and his wife, Karen M. Garland of Haverhill, Mass., Lisa A. Inniss of Salem, Mass.; his only grandson, Austin M. Garland of New Haven, Conn.; and his sister, Anne Garland of Lynn, Mass.
ARRANGEMENTS: Memorial Services will take place on March 15, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Brooksby Village Chapel in Peabody, Mass. Memorial contributions may be made out to the “Freeman Hall/Heard Chpt.
