Ellen 'Ellie' (Quinn) Murphy, 99


Beverly — Mrs. Ellen “Ellie” (Quinn) Murphy 99, of Beverly, died on March 24, 2014, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Martin) Quinn of Ireland, who settled in Salem. Ellie was sister of Martin, James, John Jr., Michael Murphy, and Mary Cohane. She was the mother of Ellen White, Chester Murphy and his wife, Polley, and Marilou Towey. She was the grandmother of Missy Shanahan and her husband, James, Dennis White and his wife, Beth, John, Michael and Ryan Towey, Patricia Krisco and he husband, Ron, Chester R. Murphy, James Murphy and his wife, Janice; and great-grandmother of 14. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was a longtime, active member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Beverly. She was an avid golfer at Wenham Country Club, where she earned many golfing trophies.

Ellie was a member of the graduating Class of 1933 from Salem High School, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad. Ellie had been employed as a hostess at the former Sword and Shield Restaurant in North Beverly.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Marilou Towey and Ellen White; and a grandson, Chester “Buddy”; four brothers; and a sister.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral services are private and will take place graveside at St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date.
