Ipswich — Geraldine F. (Cheevers) Mitchell, 94, died on Thursday afternoon, March 27, 2014, in Brentwood Rehabilitation Center in Danvers, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Somerville on March 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Mary M. (Atwood) Cheevers.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ipswich. She was a graduate of Brighton High School. She married her husband in Brighton, and they came to Ipswich in 1972. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the V.F.W. Post#1093 Auxiliary in Ipswich.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her four children and their spouses, Richard E. and Judy Mitchell and Geraldine E. Mitchell, all of Ipswich, Sheila A. Dawson-Elward and Jerry of Wells, Maine, and Maureen A. Duncan of Gloucester. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mitchell was predeceased by her three sons, George E. Mitchell, John J. Mitchell Jr. and Michael F. Mitchell. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Charles Cheevers, formerly of Dorchester, and George Cheevers, formerly of Boston; and her sister, Ruth Enright, formerly of West Roxbury.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Burial will follow in Cowles Memorial Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. An hour of visitation will be held on Monday, March 31, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Mitchell’s name to Hospice of Massachusetts, 391 Broadway, Everett, MA 02149.
