Phyllis J. Pierce, 93


Ipswich — Phyllis J. (Dodge) Pierce, 93, formerly of Broadway, Ipswich, and wife of the late Arthur S. Pierce, died on Saturday March 29, 2014, in the Blueberry Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Beverly, following her long illness.

Born in Everett on July 4, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Holbrook) Dodge. She was a 1939 graduate of the Augusta, Maine, public schools. She was married in 1943 in LosAngeles, where for several years, she was employed as a long distance operator. The Pierces soon came to Ipswich, where they made their home and raised their family.

She was an avid reader of fiction. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Ipswich.

She will fondly be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy L. Saco of Danvers; two sons, Keith D. Pierce of Gloucester, and Kevin C. Pierce of Ipswich; five grandchildren, Wendy Pierce and Tammy Pierce, both of Amesbury, Carla Saco of Beverly, Tony Zane and Wesley Pierce, both of Salem; seven great-grandsons; and several nephews and nieces. She was the mother of the late Raymond F. Pierce, formerly of South Boston; sister of the late Howard W. Dodge, formerly of New York, and Charles Dodge, formerly of Lancaster.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held graveside 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 5, in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are cordially welcomed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association MA/NH, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
