Ipswich — Sister Madeline Christine MacDougall, S.N.D., 79, of Ipswich, died peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2013, at the Sisters of Notre Dame Julie Billiart Retirement Center in Ipswich.
Sister was born Marie Catherine MacDougall in Boston on December 1, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Roderic J. and Mary F. (Courtney) MacDougall. Sister was a graduate of Emmanuel College with a bachelor's in music, and a she received her master's degree in music from the University of New Hampshire.
Sister entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in Waltham on August 1, 1951, receiving her first vows on July 30, 1954, and professed her Perpetual Vows on July 30, 1959. Sister Madeline’s ministries were in Boston, Beverly, Tyngsboro, Methuen, Lawrence, West Newton, East Boston, Leominster, Dorchester, Waltham, and Kingsport, Tenn.
Sister Madeline is survived by her many Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur; her brother, Richard and his wife, Ruth MacDougall of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a niece and seven nephews. Sister was predeceased by her brother, Paul MacDougall.
ARRANGEMENTS: Sister's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at 3 p.m., at Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffreys Neck Road, Ipswich. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Sisters of Notre Dame.
