Ossipee, NH — Robert E. Broughton, 75, of Ossipee, New Hampshire, died November 28, 2013, at the Genesis at Wolfeboro Bay, were he was a resident.
He was born on March 7, 1938, in Peabody, MA, son of the late Roger E. and Mary (Gromko) Broughton.
After graduating from Peabody High School in 1955, he attended and graduated from the Beverly Co-operative Trade School in 1958. Since then, Rob had worked as a machinist in various positions. In the 1970s he started a successful Landscaping business. He retired in 2000 due to health reasons.
Rob was not only a gentleman, he was a gentle man. He was soft spoken and never had a bad word for anyone. His greatest love was God and family. If anybody needed a hand, Rob was always the first to lend it. Parkinson's disease was his arch enemy and he fought it bravely for many years. You never heard Rob complain. On the contrary, he always wore a smile and shared a hearty laugh with friends and family.
In the early stages of his disease, Rob walked a mile every morning at 7 AM sharp when the weather permitted. He was an avid golfer, but as his illness worsened, he was confined to the driving range.
Rob loved the outdoors and spent years running his Landscaping business. Rob dearly loved his little camp on the hill that he and wife, Eleanor, shared together with their cat, Frisky. Rob was a proud member of the Peabody-Lynn Elks Lodge 1409 for over 50 years.
While at the Wolfeboro Bay Care, he enjoyed the very kind nurses and other staff that cared for him. The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff at Wolfeboro Bay for the loving care Rob received.
He leaves his loving wife, Eleanor (Newell) of Ossipee; his son, Robert Broughton Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Peabody, MA; daughters, Beverly and her husband, David Stabile, of Salem, NH, Dianne and husband, Ilidio Valente, of Peabody, MA, Stacie Cohane of Beverly, MA, and their mother, Joan Broughton of Peabody, MA; his sister, Eva and husband, James LeBlanc, of Peabody, MA; his brother, Roger and his wife, Mary Broughton, of Harwich, MA; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
