Lynn, Ma — Mr. Russell E. Higgns, 87, of Lynn, died on Sunday, December 8, 2013, in North Shore Medical Center, Union Hospital, after a long illness. He was born in Lynn, and was the son of the late George Higgins and the late Lena Amero. He was raised in Lynn and attended Lynn schools. He has lived in Lynn all of his life.
Mr. Higgins was a Marine Corp veteran of WWII. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in the Swampscott Post Office for many years. Mr. Higgins was the bartender at Dube’s Restaurant in Salem for 30 years.
Mr. Higgins is survived by his daughters, Susan Higgins and her partner, Billy Joe Mills of Lynn, and Carol Higgins and her husband, Bill Lavino of Lynn; a son, Michael Higgins of Provincetown, Mass., and Washington, D.C.; his grandchildren, Joni Rosselle of Medford, Christina Heath of Woburn, and Tayla Mills of Lynn; his great grandchildren, Craig Langes, Brandon and Victoria Heath, Brooke and Madison Rosselle; his former wife, Dorothy Furey of Lynn; his brothers and sisters, George Higgins of Georgetown, Virginia Carey of Lynn, Sally DiPrisco of Danvers, Ellen Dulavitz of Peabody, James and David Higgins of Lynn, Nancy Amidon of Rowley, Paul Higgins of Lynn, and the late Richard Higgins of Beverly; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mr. Higgins funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 11, at 11 a.m., in the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, Route 129, Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery WWII Veterans Lot. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m.
