Beverly — Robert V. Colanto, 84, beloved husband of Jacqueline L. (Deschenes) Colanto, died Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the Hawthorne Hill in Danvers following a long illness.
Born in Saugus, he was the son of the late Roberto and Domenica (Spera) Colanto. He was raised and educated in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School, class of 1947.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Army.
Mr. Colanto was associated with Desjardin’s Jewelers for many years and then owned and operated Colanto Jeweler in Danvers until the time of his retirement.
A well known and admired businessman, he was a member of the SPEBSQSA (North Shoreman Barbershop Chorus) since 1963, a charter member of the Vittori Rocci Post #56, the Italian Community Center, the Patria e Lavoro Society and the Beverly Lodge of Elks all of Beverly.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared thirty five years of marriage, he is survived by his children, Michael Colanto of Beverly, Deborah Irving and her husband, Stuart of Beverly, Suzanne Colanto of Ipswich, John Lawrence and his wife, Susan of Morristown, N.J., Judith Kane and her husband, Marvin of Peabody and Jean Quigley of Peabody, twelve grandchildren, Danielle, Nicholas and Lauren Colanto, Andrew and Ashley Irving, Tara, Matthew and Dennis Lawrence, Anthony and Rose DeDominicis and Eric and Drew Quigley, several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Mildred Crisafi and Mary Osgood.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at the Campbell – Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, Monday, September 30 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
