Robert F. Moore, 85


Ipswich/Gloucester — Robert F. Moore, 85, husband of the late Willa Todd (Fisher) Moore, died at The Atrium for senior living in Danvers with loving family by his side.

Born in New London, Conn., he was the son of the late Robert F. Moore, Sr. and the late Mildred (Blair) (Moore) McDonald. Mr. Moore was educated in the Gloucester Public Schools and Bentley College of Accounting and Finance in Boston.

He began his career working as a commercial fisherman for six years and then joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War stationed in Burtonwood, England. Following his discharge he began a career as an underwriter in the marine insurance industry in the Boston and Atlanta areas until he retired at the age of 67 to care for his ailing wife until her death in January 1997.

Within his career of marine insurance he also was a general manager of Heath Industries in Gloucester and founder and owner of Maine Coast Lobster Corp. in Portland, Maine. Both companies were engaged in the processing of whole lobsters for national and international sales. Through research and construction of flash freezing equipment, Robert obtained a U.S. patent for the process of precooked, vacuum sealed frozen whole lobsters.

He enjoyed his time spent with family including grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Carrie Ann, Daniel, Jennifer, Sarah, Marquex, Dexter, Morgan and Andrew. He was an avid gardener raising multiple crops each year while living in Marietta, Ga. for approximately 25 years until his return to New England in 1998.

He is survived by his two children, Linda Cole and her husband, Daniel, of Ipswich and Russell Moore and his wife, Kathleen, of Topsfield. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Moore and her husband, Al, of Davenport, Fla., both formerly from Gloucester and his brother, Alex McDonald and his wife, Ovieta, of Ovieao, Fla., Alex is also formerly from Gloucester.

In addition to his children, he is survived by four grandchildren and their spouses, Carrie Ann Cayer and her husband, Shawn, of Ipswich, Daniel Todd Cole, Jr. and his wife, Lynne (Tropeano, formerly of Stoneham), of Douglasville, Ga., Jennifer Anne Moore of Annapolis, Md., and Sarah Jeanne Moore of Topsfield.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 26, at 1 p.m. at the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service in the funeral home, relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will be private.
