Sophie Brown, 79


MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — Sophie Brown, 79, beloved wife of Paul P. Brown, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage, passed away after a brief illness, on Monday, November 11, at Beverly Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lynn, and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Julia (Katsoulis) Anasoulis.

Sophie grew up in Peabody, and was a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School and Fisher Junior College. She worked as a medical secretary at Beverly Hospital and GE. She married in 1961, and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Sophie was known for her Greek hospitality and kind caring spirit. She enjoyed many hobbies, volunteering, traveling, and most of all, spending time with family. She was an active member in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich, a member of the Daughters of Penelope and the Manchester Woman’s Club.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children, Elizabeth Brown Swanson and her husband, Donald, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Dean Brown of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Pamela Brown Crehan and her husband, David, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Jennifer Brown Erdogan and her husband, Mehmet, of Marmaris, Turkey; one brother, Barry Anasoulis and his wife, Helen, of Summefield, Fla.; one sister, Elaine Simon and her husband, Fred, of Tewksbury; nine grandchildren, Hunter, Benjamin, Samantha, Paul David, Molly, Alexander, John Charles, Talya, and Ali; along with many loving nieces, nephews, godchildren, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, and friends.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich, on Friday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Manchester. Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell-Lee, Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Sophie’s Memory to Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Church, 8 Lafayette Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938, or Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleogolos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
