Salem, MA — Stanley A. Szczuka, 86, of Jensen Beach, Fla., formerly of Salem and Newburyport, passed away on August 15, 2013, in the house in which he was born, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Antonia Victoria (Krisko) Szczuka, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Stanley was born in Salem, the son of the late Wiktor and Honora (Burda) Szczuka. He grew up on Daniels Street in what was then Salem's Polish-American neighborhood. He attended Salem schools, and was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, having served in Germany during the occupation.
He worked for many years in the dry cleaning business and owned and operated the Essex Cleaners in Salem until his retirement in 1989. After retirement, Stan and Vicky moved to Jensen Beach, Fla. They enjoyed traveling, especially their many summers in Vancouver, British Columbia. In recent years, they spent their summers in Salem with family.
In addition to his wife, Stanley is survived by his children, Michael and his wife, Glenys, of Salem, William and his wife, Terrie, of Milton, Ga., James of Huntersville, N.C., and Susan Wolfe and her husband, Gary, of Andover. He was predeceased by his son, Stanley Thomas Szczuka, formerly of British Columbia, Canada. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Christopher, David, and Robin Szczuka, Meagan and Matthew Wolfe, and Lance and Yavanna Scott; and seven great-grandchildren, Jack, Craig, Emma, Owen, Molly, and Claire Szczuka, and Terrance Scott.
