Marblehead, MA — Jane Wareham DeWolfe, 95, of Marblehead, Mass., passed away at home on Sunday, September 1, 2013. She was the wife of the late P. Morton DeWolfe II, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of Charles and Marian Rogers Wareham, who was a direct Mayflower descendant of John Rogers. She graduated from Skidmore College in 1940, where she majored in art, which she continued to pursue after college. She married Morton shortly after graduation, and they then moved to Marblehead, where they remained for the rest of their lives.
Her greatest joy was in her children and grandchildren. In addition, she volunteered at the MSPCC Thrift Shop in Marblehead for over 40 years. A lifelong member of the Boston Yacht Club, she was an avid sailor, winning many trophies in the Town Class and in the Herreshoff 12s with her husband, and later cruising in their Alberg Typhoon, Tenlee. Other interests included gardening as a member of “The Dirt Daubers” for over 40 years, worldwide traveling, music, especially symphony, and opera and quilting.
She is survived by her two children, Peter and his wife, Deborah DeWolfe, and Betsy and her husband, Carl R. Hyam, all of Marblehead; two grandchildren, Todd Hyam of Coventry, R.I., and Amy Hyam of Marblehead; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Wareham of Lake San Marcos, Calif.
Jane was a cheerful, loving and caring friend, mother and wife. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
