Peabody, Ma — Mrs. Ruth T. (Mattos) Conha, 92, of Peabody, died on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at home after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Elias Conha. She was born in Lynn, and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Cecelia (Sylvia) Mattos. She was raised in Lynn and Peabody, and attended Peabody High School, and lived in Peabody most of her life.
Mrs. Conha was a seamstress for 40 years, retiring in 1983 from Dominico Sportswear.
She was a member of the United Ladies Garment Workers Union. She loved to knit, sew, crochet and cook. Most of all she loved being with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her family.
She is survived by a son, David J. Conha and his wife, Claudia, of Londonderry, N.H.; a daughter, Cecelia C. Balentine and her husband, Steven, of Peabody; three grandchildren, Ellen Marie Lewin and her husband, Andrew, of Eldersburg, Md., Amy Balentine-Tennant and her husband, Timothy, of Peabody, Elizabeth Schoonman and her husband, Paul, of Charlestown; her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Bradley Conha, Jeremy and Abigail Lewin, Joseph Tennant, and Thomas and William Schoonman; and several nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Brian Conha, and sister of the late Ernest C. Mattos Jr. and Gilbert G. Mattos.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., in the Solimine, Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home, 67 Ocean Street, Route 1A, Lynn. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
