Salem — Janet M. (Macdonald) Cass, 95, wife of the late William F. Cass, died on Thursday morning, September 12, 2013, at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitaion Center in West Peabody. Born in Berlin, N.H., Mrs. Cass was the daughter of the late Archibald and Mary (Langis) Macdonald. She graduated from Salem High School, Class of 1935, after which she attended Salem Commercial School.
Mrs. Cass began her working career as a secretary at the law office of Charles Halliday in Salem. She also worked at her family's businesses, Macdonald's Tea Room in Salem, and Macdonald's Restaurant in Marblehead. Later, she worked alongside her husband as he managed the Worcester Country Club, the Sippican Yacht Club in Marion, Mass., and the Say-Hi Restaurant in Salem. While raising her four children, she managed the Boutique Bridal Salon in Salem where she was noted for creating custom bridal headpieces and veils. Most especially, she was very proud of her family and enjoyed being with them.
Surviving her are her three children, William F. Cass III and his wife, Sallie, of Salem, Janet M. Bucossi and her husband, William, of Sebastian, Fla., and Robert A. Cass and his wife, Susan, of Sturbridge; her daughter-in-law, Bettye W. Cass; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Edward Charles Cass, and sister of the late Claire Macdonald.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mrs. Cass’ Funeral Service will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., corner of North Street, Salem, on Saturday, September 21, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service at the funeral home, from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
