Salem — Patricia E. (Pope) Cavanaugh of Salem, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at home, in the comforting presence of her family.
She was the wife of the late Martin “Jimmy” Cavanaugh, who died in 1978. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John H and Mary H (Walkovich) Pope.
Pat retired from the Massachusetts Trial Court System, Salem, after serving in various capacities for 22 years.
She is survived by four children, John of Manchester, N.H., Bonnie and her husband, Darryl Stavros of Salem, Mass., Martin and his wife, Leah, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Mark and his companion, Lois Bizwanger of Salem. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Amanda, Sheila, Douglas, Katrina, Darryl, and Samantha; and one great-grandchild, Payton; her sister and best friend, Anne (Pope) Baccari of Salem; her sister-in-law, Patricia Kincade of Cortez, Colo.; an extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins; and her beloved and devoted feline companion, “Mac.”
She was a friend and like a mother to many, and always opened her door to anyone in need. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends,

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 4, at 9:15 a.m., from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, corner of North Street, Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., in St. James Church, 156 Federal Street, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, from 3 to 7 p.m., in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
