Beverly — Ashley Simone Speicher, born August 17, 1985, died unexpectedly June 2, 2012, after her extended and courageous battle with heart disease. She is a 2003 Beverly High school graduate who went on to attend Westfield State College as a political science major where she served as a journalist on The Voice. She obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree Magna Cum Laude at the Southern New Hampshire University in 2007. It was here where she served as the President of the University’s Ambassador, she traveled to New Orleans in 2005 and 2006 to aid in Hurricane Katrina Relief and volunteered at the Red Cross and Kid’s Club. She was accepted into UMASS Dartmouth’s Masters Program in Administrative Social Work to begin this fall. She was awarded the Youth Leadership Award for her extensive volunteer work for those with disabilities which led her to her first job at ILCNSCA . She went on to be crowned Miss Wheelchair Massachusetts in 2009 to further her advocacy for those with disabilities. Ashley was the lucky recipient of a heart transplant in 1997 that triggered her long life of advocacy and support for those with disabilities where she was awarded the Exemplary Youth Award by Mayor Scanlon for her perseverance, courage and determination during this time. Ashley’s most recent job was one in which she loved at Action Inc. as an advocate for those in need. She was an avid Red Sox fan and devoted her to time to caring for her Yorkshire Terrier, Jackson, her family and her friends. She is the daughter of James and Diane (L’Italien) Speicher of Beverly. She is also survived by her sister Lisa, brother Jamie, her grandmother Doris Speicher of Salem, her Godmother Ellen Morrison-Beote, as well as several cousins, aunts and uncles. Due to her long life of giving back to others she was a well-loved and respected young woman who leaves behind a large group of friends and will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be offered in the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, on Wednesday, June 5th, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, June 4th, from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
