George G. Lail, Jr., 89


Marblehead — Mr. George G. Lail, Jr., age 89, of Marblehead, died on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at his home. He was the husband of the late Laura E. (Thompson) Lail.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late George G. and Italia (Messerly) Lail, Sr. He lived in Marblehead since 1958.

George was a Navy veteran of WWII. After the war he started working for General Electric Co. From 1958 until his retirement in 1985 he was a mechanical engineer in the Aircraft Engine Group at the River Works Plant in Lynn. He was also a member of the G.E. Elfun Society.

An avid sailor, he was a longtime member of the Boston Yacht Club. He was past Chairman of the BYC Race Committee and is Chairman Emeritus. George was an active member of the Old North Church in Marblehead and was a past Church Deacon. He was also past Treasurer of the Symphony-by-the-Sea. For many years he was active in the Boy Scouts and was past Scoutmaster of Troop 79 at the Clifton Lutheran Church, Marblehead.

He was the father of Robert G. Lail and his wife Carol of Marblehead, and David A. Lail of Uxbridge, grandfather of Lisa, Kathryn, Aaron and Jeffrey and great-grandfather of Brianna and Kayla.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead. Burial in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
