Ipswich — Ellen Retalis, 91, of Lowell and formerly of Ipswich, died Friday morning, November 23, 2012, in the Heritage Skilled Nursing Center in Lowell after a long illness. Born in Brockton on July 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Speros and Christina (Lipsanos) Retalis.
Miss Retalis was a longtime resident of Ipswich but had been a resident of Lowell for the past 6 years. She was also a longtime member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich. Miss Retalis was employed for many years at Sylvania in Ipswich and was later employed at Lucent Technologies in Andover for many years as well. She enjoyed going to Crane Beach in Ipswich and traveling extensively.
Miss Retalis is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was the last surviving sibling of her family. She was predeceased by her 4 brothers: Angelo Retalis, formerly of Ipswich, Peter Retalis, formerly of Andover, George Retalis, formerly of Severna Park, MD, and Harry Retalis, formerly of Wayne, NJ, and by her 2 sisters Bessie Retalis, formerly of Ipswich, and Georgia Nicholaides, formerly of Lowell.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 28th, at 10:00 A.M. at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich, relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the New Highland Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. There will be no visiting hours.
