Lynn — Mr. Hedley M. Ash, age 90 years, of Lynn died Monday Nov. 26 at Union Hospital, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Bernice (Richards) Ash, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.
Born in Somerville he was the son of the late Howard and Lily (Payne) Ash. He grew up in Lynnfield and graduated from Wakefield High School, Class of 1939. He received a Bachelors’ Degree in Aircraft Engineering from Wentworth Institute, Class of 1948. Hedley served in WW II in the Army Air Corps as a flight engineer aboard a C-47. He flew the route between India and China referred to as “flying over the hump”.
He was employed as an engineer at General Electric for many years until he retired in 1983. He was a member of Lynnfield-Zetland Lodge A. F. & A, M., and Aleppo Temple in Wilmington.
He is survived by a brother Howard Ash and his wife Judith of N. Reading, a nephew Russell Ash and his wife Karen of Nashua, NH, two nieces, Martha Hartery and her husband Owen of Chelmsford, Carolyn Ash of N. Reading, a step-daughter Patricia and her husband A. James Lynch of Lynnfield, three step-grandchildren, Maura P. Lynch of Lynnfield, Thomas J. Lynch of Lynn, Karen E. Lang of Lynnfield, two step-great grandchildren, Max and Grand Lang of Lynnfield. He was also brother of the late Dorothy Hopkins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Hedley’s funeral will be held at the Parker Funeral Home, 35 Franklin St., Lynn, on Friday at 11 AM, to which relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 3 to 7 PM, Thursday. Lynnfield-Zetland Lodge will hold Masonic services on Thursday at 6:30 PM.
