Peabody — John Lawrence McKinnon, 91, of Peabody, formerly of Salem, beloved husband of the late Alice (Morris) McKinnon, died November 30, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Born in Dorchester, he was the son of the late John L. Sr. and Helen (Lawless) McKinnon. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School class of 1939. He continued his education attending Boston College.
As a young man, Mr. McKinnon worked at the First National Stores for over fifteen years prior to becoming an agent for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company throughout the North Shore. Since his retirement John had been associated with his brother at McKinnon Realty.
A longtime communicant of St. James Church in Salem, he was well known for his kindness and true friendship. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Mr. McKinnon is survived by his four daughters Catherine Leofanti and her husband Paul of Wakefield, Mary Cobb and her husband Russell of Danvers, Helen Kolodziej and her husband Kenneth of Peabody, Maureen McKinnon of Peabody, his son John H. Ramsay of Peabody, twelve grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one brother William F. McKinnon of Danvers and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers Samuel, Robert and Thomas McKinnon.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from The O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common), Salem, Wednesday Dec. 5th, at 9:15 A.M. followed by his funeral Mass in St. James Church, Federal St., Salem, at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M.
