Peabody — June E. “June Bug” (Channell) Legro, 82, of Peabody, died Monday at her son’s home, after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late James L. “Whitey” Legro, Sr.
June was born in Lynn, daughter of the late Fred and Hazel M. (Hoitt) Channell. She was a resident of Lynn for most of her life and resided in Peabody for the past 7 years. She was a graduate of Ingalls Elementary School and attended Lynn English High School.
June worked at the General Electric Company - Allerton St., where she operated a punch press for several years. She previously worked at the former Nissens Bakery and Witham Caterers.
June had a great sense of humor and her true devotion was the time she would spend with her family and friends. She enjoyed camping at Long Lake and Kokatosi Campgrounds. She also enjoyed playing bingo, swimming, crocheting and was an avid gardener and loved her flowers.
She is survived by one son, James L. Legro, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn of Lynn; her two daughters, Sandra Legro of Peabody and Christine “Chris” O’Blenes and her husband, Ray of Peabody; her brother, Dewain U. Channell of Peabody. She is also survived by her eight loving grandchildren and six cherished great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Lt. Corporal Frederick George Channell who was killed in action in Guam in 1944, Leslie E. Channell and Byron J. Channell.
ARRANGEMENTS: June’s funeral service will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Thursday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
