Donald L. Goodwin, 71, husband of Lucille (McDonough) Goodwin, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, died Sunday, February 12, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Gloucester. Born in Gloucester, he is son of the late Loring Alves and the late Olive Thompkins Goodwin.
Donald grew up in Gloucester and has lived most of his life in Manchester. He is a graduate of St. John’s Prep and attended Northeastern University. Donald was employed at the Raytheon Company for many years until his retirement. He was the Chairman of the Financial Committee and on the School Committee in Manchester. He enjoyed sailing, chopping wood, and hunting in Vermont. In Donald’s later years, he enjoyed bird watching and history.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Lee Goodwin-Schwarzmann and her husband Richard of Berkeley, CA; two brothers: Thomas Goodwin and his wife Paula of Santa Barbara, CA, and Peter Goodwin and his wife Linda of Magnolia; one sister: Deborah Goodwin of Minnesota; one grandchild: Sophia Caron of Berkeley, CA, one great-grandchild: Christopher Baltrip on Berkeley, CA; and daughter-in-law: Patricia Harris Goodwin of Beverly. He is predeceased by his son, Daniel Judson Goodwin.
