Margaret E. Greehan, 96


Salem, Massachusetts — Mrs. Margaret E. (Donnelly) Greehan, 96 years, formerly of Salem and Swampscott, died peacefully on December 25, 2012. She was the wife of the late Frederick D. Greehan Jr. She was born in Londonderry, Ireland, the daughter of the late Patrick and Julia (O’Reilly) Donnelly. She was raised in Salem and was president of her graduating class at Saint James School in Salem. She lived in Swampscott most of her life.

Margaret volunteered with many organizations in the Swampscott and Lynn area. She was a leader with the Girl Scouts in Swampscott and received the Saint Anne’s Award for over twenty-five years of service. She was past president of the PTA and Sodality at St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott and was involved in many parish activities. She volunteered with the National Federation for the Blind, worked with their Insight Club and was a tremendous advocate for the blind. Mrs. Greehan loved Salem and its historical offerings, especially Salem Willows. She loved all things Irish, particularly Irish music. Mrs. Greehan spent many hours at local beaches with her 7 children and numerous grandchildren.

Mother of seven, grandmother of 15, and great-grandmother of 5 Margaret is survived by her sons, Frederick Greehan and his wife Joanne of St. Petersburg, Florida, Richard Greehan and his wife Maria of West Peabody, MA, her daughters Mary Jane McNeil and her husband Max of Andover, Patricia Ferebee and her husband Warren of Cherry Hill, NJ, Martha Sexton of Billerica, Barbara Jacobs of Salem, Kathleen Greehan and her husband John Vittori of Swampscott, her grandchildren, Rick, Jeff, Amy, Jason, Unique, Allen, Laura, Jill, Andy, Patrick, Brian, Matt, Mike, Kelly and Dani, and her great-grandchildren, Meghan, Bridget, Caitlin, Jordan and Amaya. She was the devoted sister of the late Regina Donnelly.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012, at 9:00 AM from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (Rte 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott, at 10:00 AM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
