James Eagan, 88


Flatwoods, Ky. — James E. Eagan, 88, of Flatwoods, Ky., formerly of Peabody, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013, at his residence. Mr. Eagan was born on January 8, 1925 in Peabody, Massachusetts, a son of the late James L. and Anna M. Dullea Eagan.

James was a Sea Scout in his youth, a member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 350, National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 0931, National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, and Moore Street Tabernacle in Ashland. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was assigned to the USS Boise, which earned eleven Battle Stars, during World War II. After the war he was assigned to the USS New, after his discharge he was brought into the Huntington, West Virginia Recruiting Office. He was married to the late Velva Shannon Eagan. He later retired with 31 years of service as Purchasing Agent with the former Allied Signal Company in Ashland. He was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Hanna Eagan. He is survived by two sons, Brian E. and Teresa Diane Eagan of Ashland, Ky., and Richard D. and Sandra Eagan of Huntington, W.Va.; five grandsons, Michael and Phillip Eagan of Virginia, Jonathan Eagan of Ohio, Sean Eagan of Florida, and Christopher Eagan of Alaska; six great-grandchildren which includes a special great-granddaughter, Madison Thompson of Kentucky, and Kayla, Mackenna and Cody of Alaska, Sophie and Jocelyn Eagan of Florida; five step-grandchildren, Selena VanHoose and David Fyffe of West Virginia, Sonja Thompson of Kentucky, Dr. Ricky Cremeans, Jr. of South Carolina, and Jessica Stapleton of Nebraska; cousin, Charles Lawrence of Massachusetts; niece, Vicki and Dennis Petershon of Colorado; and a nephew, David and Cookie Ferrell of West Virginia.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013, at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. Scott Byard presiding. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland, where he will be honored by military graveside rites by Ceredo-Kenova American Legion Post 93. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland, Ky.
