DANVERS — Mrs. Dorothea R. (Ranks) Griebel 88, of Danvers, beloved wife of the late Frederick W. Griebel Jr., died, Wednesday morning, December 12, 2012 at Putnam Farm at Danvers.
Born in Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred Ellis Ranks. She was raised and educated in South Portland, Maine and was a graduate of Simmons College in Boston.
Dorothea was very dedicated to her family, being a faithful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was active in genealogical studies, was a faithful fan of the Boston Red Sox, and enjoyed reading. She also was very fond of the pets owned by her family over the years. She was a long time resident of the Town of Lynnfield until recently moving to Danvers.
Dorothea is survived by her daughter, Patricia Shields and her husband Peter of Reading, her son, William Griebel and his wife Honora of Lynn, her three grandchildren, Christopher Griebel, Heather Shields and Elizabeth Shields and her great grandchild, Julia Shields-Thomas.
Dorothea’s family wishes to express their deepest thanks to the loving staff members at Putnam Farm at Danvers, Visiting Angels, and Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the Middleton Congregational Church, Maple St., Middleton, Wednesday, December 19th at 11:30 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers, Tuesday, December 18th, from 4:30 to 7:30 P.M.
