Salem — Helen M. (Wodarski) Schaufler, 80, died Wednesday February 27, 2013, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, with her son at her side, following a lengthy illness. Helen was the wife of the late William Schaufler, Jr.
Born on December 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Zigmund and Elsie (Van Buren) Wodarski. Helen lived in Salem most of her life except during the early years of her marriage, when she traveled with her husband who was in the U.S. Navy. After raising her family, Helen attended college and earned a Bachelor’s degree in social work at Salem State College, graduating in 1981. She worked for many years assisting the elderly.
Surviving her is her son Steven E. Schaufler and his wife Carol of Salem; her granddaughter Francheska Schaufler of Salem and several nieces and nephews. Helen was also the mother of the late William T. Schaufler III and sister of the late Geraldine Wodarski and Elsie Claire Doherty.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held in the David H. Gonet Funeral Home, 22 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, on Saturday at 11 am. A visitation will be held in the funeral home prior to the service from 9 – 11. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. To leave a condolence please visit www.gonetfuneralhome.com.
