Melrose, MA — Minor H. McLain died suddenly on May 7, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn “Carol” (Peebles) McLain with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Susan E. Saunders of Melrose and Andrew H. McLain of Lynn and the cherished grandfather of Kimberly J. Saunders and Kenneth E. E. Saunders, Jr., both of Atlanta, Ga. He was the former father-in-law of Kenneth E. E. Saunders, Sr. of Victoria, Va., and loving great-grandfather of Terrence “Dominic” Wilson of Atlanta, Ga. He was a late POW veteran of the U.S. Army in WWII.

Phelan, and by her twelve loved and loving nieces and nephews and their spouses: Maureen Phelan, John V. Phelan, Jr. and his wife Mary, Mark and Robin Phelan, Matthew and Erolynn Phelan, Robert Phelan, Jr. and his wife Kelly Ayotte-Phelan, Michael and Mary Phelan, Lynn Mayoral Candidate Timothy Phelan and his wife Stacy, Vincent and Dorothy Phelan, Jeff and Nell Ann (Phelan) Hiatt, Todd and Kathryn (Phelan) Brown, Peter and Sarah Phelan, and George and Elizabeth (Phelan) Morris, as well as numerous great nephews and nieces, one great-grand nephew and one great-grand niece, and numerous cousins and friends in the Greater Lynn area. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Judge and Mrs. John V. (Helene) Phelan, her brother Robert G. Phelan and his wife Shirley, and her sister-in-law, Eleanor Phelan.

Manchester By The Sea, MA — Virginia S. Ball, 87, of Rockport, Mass., died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Den-Mar Nursing Home in Rockport, Mass., surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 18, 1926, in Exeter, N.H., a daughter of the late Everard and Dorothy (Dearborn) Smith. Raised and educated in Derry, Ginny resided in Manchester by the Sea for more than 50 years. She was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Class of 1944 and was very active in sports. Following high school, she played basketball for the Derry Pin-ups. Ginny enjoyed her summer day on Singing Beach, traveling, and gardening. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and enjoyed puzzles and entertaining her family. Ginny served most recently on the resident board at the Den-Mar Nursing Home.

He was the beloved father of Janet Mirick and her fiancé, Arthur Ayre of Taunton; grandfather of two grandchildren, Carly Mirick and Chase Mirick; and great grandfather of two great grandchildren, Derek and Morgan; and brother in law of Frank Jatsura and his wife, Mildred of Missijauga, Ontario Canada. He was the brother of the late Frederick Hoffman and many nieces and nephews.
