He enjoyed being a member of the Hobbiest Club Bowling League, the Church of the Presentation, The Thorns, and spending quality time with friends and family.

He was the husband of the late Ramona (Staniewicz), with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Marblehead, he was the son of the late Herman W. and Gertrude (Gove) Nickerson.

  • Joseph L. Tosi, 89

    Beverly — Joseph L. Tosi, 89, beloved husband of Nancy M. (Rea) Tosi, died on Sunday, April 6, at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late John and Susan (Necco) Tosi. Joseph was raised and educated in Beverly, and a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1943. Joe worked for Connolly Brothers Construction Co. in Beverly for 40 years as yard superintendent. He also served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard, from which he was honorably discharged. Joe was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Michael J. Cadigan Jr., American Legion Post 46, the West Beach Corporation, and St. Margaret Church for many years. Joe was an avid Bruins and Red Sox fan, who also enjoyed golfing and gardening. One of Joe’s favorite activities was spending time with his family.

  • Blaine A. Gann, 60

    Methuen, MA — Blaine A. Gann, 60, a dedicated, lifelong educator and coach, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 5, 2014, after being stricken at home. Blaine was born in Roxbury, and raised and educated in Lawrence. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1971, where he played all sports and loved basketball. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in education from Lesley College in Boston. At the time of his passing, Blaine was a guidance counselor and recruiter for YouthBuild in Lawrence, and the head boys’ basketball coach at Presentation of Mary Academy in Methuen. He was previously employed at the Greater Lawrence Educational Collaborative as a vocational culinary instructor. Blaine was an avid golfer, enjoyed music, dining out, and gardening.

  • Donna M. (Kermelewicz) Varoudakis, 66

    Danvers — At 66 years, Donna M. (Kermelewicz) Varoudakis passed away on Wednesday, April 2, at Beverly Hospital, after a sudden, debilitating illness. Born and raised in Chelsea, she was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Primrose (Goodwin) Kermelewicz. She attended Chelsea High School and was graduated with the Class of 1965. In 1971, she was married to George Varoudakis, and together they shared the last 42 years with love and devotion. They settled in Danvers, and together they raised their family of one daughter and two sons. Donna was strongly devoted to home and family. She also worked from home and at NE Caterers, a family owned business, as its chief bookkeeper and office manager. Donna possessed a very independent spirit, she enjoyed spending summers at the family lake house in New Hampshire, swimming and boating on Pine River Pond. In addition to her family and beloved Lab-mix “Okie,” she held an equal devotion to the Patriots and was a great “Tom Brady“ fan.

  • Dr. Mitchell T. Wolak

    Salem — Dr. Mitchell T. Wolak of Fort Myers, FL, died unexpectedly on April 2, 2014. Born on November 27, 1931, in New Britain, CT, he was the son of the late Anthony and Sophie (Pryga) Wolak. Mitch grew up in New Britain, CT and graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelors of Science and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He spent his veterinary career at Lynn Animal Clinic before his retirement. The youngest of four, Mitch was predeceased by his sister, Maryanne Cichowski and brother, Theodore Wolak, both of CT. He leaves behind his beloved sister, Leocadia “Lottie” Zak of Lynn; his longtime partner, Elaine Grevelis of Salem; his sister-in-law, Modesta Wolak of CT; several nieces and nephews including Francis Cichowski and his wife, Joyce, of FL; Ronald Cichowski and his wife, Kathy, of Carver, MA; Leora (Wolak) Moquin and her husband, James, of CT; Wade Wolak of CT; Francis Zak and his wife, Patricia, of Longmeadow, MA; Mary (Zak) Archambault and her husband, Leo, of Lynn; Leocadia “Lee” Zak and her husband, Kenneth Hansen, of Washington, DC; and many wonderful friends. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish in Lynn. Mitch loved golfing and socializing and could be found around town with friends at Wendy’s on Boston St. in Lynn, Kane’s Donuts in Saugus, and at New Brothers Restaurant in Danvers. Mitch enjoyed sharing jokes and making others laugh. He would have appreciated the following: “Today a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swimming pool. I gave him a glass of water.”
