Headbutting defendant gets 39-year murder sentence

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — A man who headbutted his attorney during his murder trial has been sentenced to 39 years in prison for shooting a man he believed was having an affair with his girlfriend.

Twenty-five-year-old Eriberto Gonzales was convicted earlier this month of murder and sentenced Wednesday for the March 2007 ambush killing of 25-year-old Ezequiel Reyes.

During the trial, Gonzalez headbutted his lawyer, causing a cut over the attorney's eye, in a disagreement over defense strategy.
