Letter: Obama willing to compromise

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

I take issue with your Marblehead writer in his lengthy article about Lincoln and his own father (“Obama’s missed opportunity,” March 9) and their patriotic contributions to the nation, then stating that Obama has no desire to lead us back to greatness.

I assume this to mean the greatness of the previous Republican administration, a disaster if ever there was one that Obama inherited and has tried his best to get back on an even keel only to be stymied continually by a Republican party willing to vote no on just about everything. Yet in spite of it, the nation is coming back from the worst recession since the Great Depression of 1929.

Has Obama been perfect in dealing with Republicans? No, but when the leader of Republicans in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, vows to make him a one-term president, what is Obama to do, beg for help?

Compromise is the word that allows for greatness. That’s where Republicans in Congress have fallen flat on their backsides, missing a great opportunity to work with a very willing president!
