Letter: Before the game, take a dip for a good cause

To the editor:

This weekend on Super Bowl Sunday, Polar Plunge events will be celebrated at both Lynch Park in Beverly and Dead Horse Beach in Salem. As is the tradition on Super Bowl Sunday, swimmers will gather, friends and families will cheer, and together we will raise funds and create awareness for two local and important causes: the River House shelter and the North Shore Community Development Coalition. We hope you will join us!

Check-in at both Dead Horse Beach and Lynch Park begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday, with the "jump" scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

Again this year, there will be a community celebration immediately following the event at the Vittori-Rocci Post, 143 Brimbal Ave., Beverly. Everyone is invited! The party will feature friends, fun, music (thanks to the BHS Jazz Band), great story-swapping and awards, too! T-shirts will be awarded to plungers, Double Dip coupons handed out to double-dippers, and trophies will be awarded to the school that turns in the most money on Plunge Day and the school with the biggest Plunge team.

If you have been thinking about plunging or would like to sponsor a brave soul who is, there is still time to register. Please visit www.northshorecdc.org by tomorrow night to register or make a donation online.

Bring a friend to have your towel and dry clothes ready when you emerge from the ocean, and don't forget to wear sneakers to protect your feet.

So grab your blanket and your Plunge buddy, and we'll see you at the beach.

Thanks to all participants in advance for being part of this special day and all you are doing to make our communities great places to live!
