Letter: Salem dog park users dispose of waste

To the editor:

Regarding the Oct. 22 article “Bacterial detectives on the job,” which describes local students’ science project resulting in the identification of E. coli in the river along Salem’s dog park:

It occurred to me that the article made it appear that those using the dog park were likely responsible for the dog waste in the river. I would suggest that those of us using the dog park predominately dispose of any waste with the bags and containers that have always been provided within the dog park. Waste found outside is likely being left by those not using the dog park.

I would also like to clarify that the entirety of Leslie’s Retreat Park is not a dog park. The dog park is located within a portion of Leslie’s Retreat Park.
