Thanks: Kudos for a terrific teacher

To the editor:

I am writing to commend and congratulate Steve Black for his energy, excitement and enthusiasm in making a difference in so many students' lives in Salem High School's Fine and Performing Arts Department.

He has directed a host of productions and plays that rival Broadway with costumes, sets, and dancing that gave life to each performance. His professional reputation with the North Shore Music Theatre has fostered a great partnership that many school systems would give their right arm for.

He brings out the real magic and talent in each individual and has engaged and energized students on and behind the stage, allowing them to fly like eagles in productions productions ranging from "Les Miserables" to "High School Musical."

The late astronaut-teacher Christa McAuliffe said "one never knows one's influence as a teacher, for you affect eternity." As a teacher of 36 years and a fan of the performing arts, I feel we are indeed lucky and blessed to have the time, talent, and treasure of Mr. Black. He is moving on to pursue a master's degree and we all wish him the very best.

He is indeed Salem High School's Music Man.
