Letter: 'Sex and the City' star has a number of local connections

To the editor:

It was a delight to see Sarah Jessica Parker back in town for the filming of the documentary series, "Who Do You Think You Are?". But this was not her first visit to the Witch City.

In fact, some would say her ancestral connection to Salem is no mystery at all. Her distant relation here in Salem was a certain Sarah Sanderson, the youngest of the three infamous Sanderson sisters hanged as witches in 1692.

Disney's "Hocus Pocus" was released in 1993, and starred Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker as a trio of evil witches (apologies to our native Wiccans). Filmed on location in Salem, it quickly became a Halloween classic, and is aired frequently each October.

This is my family's favorite Halloween film, and should be on every Salem resident's must-see list. Although many scenes were shot on soundstages, others were filmed at the Ropes Mansion, Old Town Hall, and Salem Common. Even the Old Burial Hill in Marblehead got into the act.

Welcome back, Sarah!
