---- — To the editor:
On behalf of Northeast Arc, I’d like to thank the nearly 300 guests who joined us at our “Uncorked” wine tasting and auction at Kernwood Country Club last month — and the hundreds of others who donated a gift to our auction, sponsored the event or placed an ad in our program book. The event was one of our most successful fundraisers ever, netting close to $73,000 for the agency. A portion of those funds will be used to buy a SMART Board for our Meridian Day Habilitation program, and the remainder will be used to address needs within the organization not being met by our government funding sources, like our recreation programs.
The event would not have been as successful without the support of our friends in the business community; thank you to Gold Sponsors Eastern Bank and Collaborative Consulting, and to our Silver Sponsor, United Benefit Services. Thank you to Kappy’s Liquors in Peabody, which donated the wine for the wine tasting, and also let us borrow Steve Katzen and Marc Sachs for pouring duty. Corkscrew Liquors in Peabody generously donated the wine for the dessert portion of the evening, and Jacqueline’s Gourmet Cookies and Cakes for Occasions both provided our dessert treats.
We thank the lovely and poised Kim Carrigan, who shared her time and talents with us as the celebrity auctioneer for our live auction. And we couldn’t have pulled it off without the help of Jim Wilkens, our audiovisual technician, and all the audiovisual equipment donated by AVFX in Boston.
Finally, the event would not have been the success it was without a dynamic and motivated committee to oversee it, led by Northeast Arc parent and Board member, Ivy Dorflinger. Ivy was an active and committed chairperson, and the success of the event is due in no small part to her leadership and enthusiasm.
We cannot possibly list everyone who donated to the event in some way, but we know that Northeast Arc would not be able to continue to help the 7,000 people we serve annually in 150 Massachusetts cities and towns without the support of our neighbors in the community. Your contributions help us fulfill our mission of helping people with disabilities become full participants in the community, choosing for themselves how to live, learn, work, socialize and play.
