Letter: Education Foundation deserves praise

To the editor:

As the parent of three former Salem public school children, I have been very impressed with the time and effort many of our community’s young parents have devoted to trying to aid and improve Salem’s schools. The Salem Education Foundation is a catalyst for these efforts, a welcome booster for our schools and an inclusive organization that has devoted countless hours to fundraising for classroom grants and to spreading the word about the critical importance of quality education for Salem’s children. To have Brendan Walsh refer to this group as “elitist snobs” (The Salem News, Feb. 5) is insulting, unprofessional and incorrect. I would think as a longtime member of the Salem School Committee, Mr. Walsh would praise these parents instead of castigating them.
