Letter: Barter’s is missed

To the editor:

Peter Barter’s shop has been closed at Salem’s Pickering Wharf (on Derby Street) for a few months now. Many a day I stopped in there, even if I didn’t buy anything. It had that old-fashioned atmosphere of a Colonial-oriented store, even if it didn’t sell antiques.

Well, I appreciated the store, and I will miss it — Colonial building models, Byer’s carolers and other things. Barter’s place exemplified a piece of Salem atmosphere.
