Letter: St. Richard's looks back, forward

(Continued)

With the goal of not touching the parish operating budget, the committee was instructed to work on zero-based budgeting with all events striving to be self-supporting, if at all possible. Thanks go out to the Thomas Power Council #1505 Knights of Columbus and the Danversport Yacht Club, our major business sponsors, with many local businesses and individuals contributing. Marge and Tom Leonard donated Patriots tickets for a raffle to give us the “seed” money needed.

We remembered through holding afternoon teas with our founding members, recording historical testimonies, pictures and documents, placing historical articles into the bulletin and, of course, hearing the wonderful stories that were carried down through the years.

We celebrated with a logo contest, Patriots ticket raffle, kick-off Mass and pancake breakfast, “That’s Amore” spaghetti dinner, marriage Mass, founder’s Mass, St. Patrick’s dinner, Tina Luce concert, $1,000 gift card calendar raffle, Sportsplex family day, 50th anniversary Mass and reception, golf tournament, Horrible’s parade, summer concert and grille, tailgate party, Mediterranean cruise, Northshore Hospice walk, blessing of the animals, candy bingo, St. Richard’s music ministry, the 50th gala, Sounds of the Holidays concert and the concluding Mass and pancake breakfast. What a year it was!

We believe in our future by strengthening our relationships with God and each other. Increasing evangelization by embracing a new adult religious education program titled “Catholicism” and led by parishioner John Sabina. Continuing our outreach programs by extending a hand to our fellow man. Communicating with our parishioners and the greater community through the assistance of multi-media such as DCAT cable TV, Facebook and our website. Together with the St. Mary’s of the Annunciation Parish and finance councils, we will work together toward our future collaboration in serving the Catholic community of Danvers while remaining independent of each other. And, we will continue to come together as a community with the new social activities committee under the chairmanship of Kandi Kukas.
