Letter: Creating the hallmarks of a special place

To the editor:

Hats off to you for your endorsement of Question 4 for the Community Preservation Act! You spotlighted the essence of CPA, which is the community coming together to pave the way for investment in preservation, conservation and community housing, which we could never achieve individually. It is this collective commitment that will restore or create the very visible examples of what makes Beverly special, beautiful, enjoyable and memorable.

That this balanced program seeks to ensure that people of all economic condition have safe, attractive and affordable housing speaks well to our sense of the broader well-being of a true community. That CPA, as proposed here in Beverly, embraces exemptions for those least able to afford contributing — but no less deserving of the benefits of a vibrant city — highlights that Beverly is sensitive to the need to support one another for the common good.

A yes vote on 4 says that you want to join others in preserving what those before us have contributed to make this a desirable community and in creating our own hallmarks of a special place.
