Letter: Russell sculpture was long overdue

To the editor:

The “Russell Sculpture” finally happened Friday, Nov. 1, and was long overdue.

The different blocks around the sculpture depict the Russell-led Celtics’ 11-for-13 NBA titles during the Russell years with quotes from Big Bill.

The event was supposed to start at 2 p.m., but it actually started around 1:15 p.m. with Tom Heinsohn and Big Bill coming out to the tent over the sculpture, and many people were there early, including myself.

Russell milled around the crowd, getting much applause.

Russell and his colleagues then went to 60 State St. for a private luncheon.
