Our View: Taxpayer 'receipt' sounds like election-year gimmick

The war of words being waged by the camps of Sen. Scott Brown and his Democratic opponent, Elizabeth Warren, can sometimes verge on the nonsensical.

Most of the press releases that come over the transom aren't worthy of comment, but then there was the one last week advising of Brown's proposal to require the government to provide every American with a "receipt" showing how the money he or she paid in taxes will be spent.

You know what, Sen. Brown? There are plenty of sources already from which to gather that information if one is interested. We'd rather the government save the money it would spend compiling and sending out that data.
