Thanks: Willows concerts a treasured summertime tradition

To the editor:

I am writing on behalf of family and my neighborhood to express our thanks to David Benjamin and the North Shore Concert Band.

Since first hearing about the free concerts put on at the Salem Willows three years ago, listening to the band's weekly performances has become a favorite summertime tradition.

The quality of the music performed is always appreciated, but the experience is further enhanced by the narration provided by David Adams. With his thoughtful and insightful commentary, Mr. Adams encourages concert patrons not only to hear the music, but also participate in its history and tradition.

The restoration of Salem Willows Park over the past few years has made it an ideal sport to host these concerts. Between the cool breezes and spectacular sunsets over the water and the chance to sit and meet new friends over popcorn and ice cream, these are the kinds of evenings that make summer such a special time. It means a great deal to watch the children marching through the grass each week — "playing with the band" wielding tambourines and triangles — knowing that these evenings will be remembered fondly for years to come.

Every Tuesday we have had the chance to take a break from the speed and noise of life and enjoy the peace, easy smiles and beautiful music at the North Shore Concert Band performances.

I hope Mr. Benjamin and his musicians know how much these evenings have come to mean to their audience.

I want to thank them for giving us another summer of memories. We all hope they will return to the Willows for many years to come.
