Letter: US response to terrorism is weak

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

Is it possible that there is another attack on American soil in our future? It was the weak response of the Clinton Administration to terrorist attacks on Americans and American facilities that prompted the attack of 9/11. The attack on the USS Cole without any accountability finally emboldened the terrorists of 9/11 to reach the conclusion that the United States was weak and gave them the false courage to bring their battle to the shores of America. But they hadn’t counted on the response of the new president, George Bush, and so we were safe for the next eight years.

But now we have another paper tiger in power. Barack Obama is unquestionably the weakest and worst president in our history, taking the title away from Jimmy Carter. His first act was to apologize to the world for America, calling us bullies. He then insulted our best ally in the Middle East, Israel, while holding meetings with terrorist leaders. His next step was to try and close Guantanamo Bay, trying to allow known terrorists to either go back to their terrorist cells or be brought to American soil where they would be afforded the same rights and privileges as the American citizens they had murdered.

A message was sent to our enemies that we were weak, as the powers-that-be announced our withdrawal from Afghanistan, helped to put a known radical Muslim in power in Egypt, refused to acknowledge the attack on Benghazi as a terrorist attack, backed down on the red-line retaliation promises concerning chemical weapon use by Syria and walked away with their tails between their legs concerning Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions.

Our enemies watch as we treat the terrorists of 9/11 with kid gloves. No arrests have ever been made for the attack on Benghazi, which left four Americans dead. Syria completely ignored our warnings about a red line without any consequences, and Iran thumbs its nose at us concerning its nuclear advancement.

Beware America, bullies do not back off when we show weakness; it only emboldens them with a false sense of superiority and encourages them to be even more aggressive.
