Letter: War not the answer

To the editor:

Kudos to Brendan Walsh for his May 27 letter “A plan to prevent war”! He has articulated what so many of us believe — that the war machine profits handsomely from warfare while the sacrifices of those sent to fight come from the middle- and working-class citizens of our nation, which is grossly unfair. Nobody should profit from war and if the nation is “forced” into war, nobody should be exempt. Everybody serves!

Too many Hispanic and African-American kids as well as white working-class kids and their families have made huge sacrifices while members of Congress wear lapel pins to show their patriotism, with a few exceptions who have served. It’s time to change the equation!
