To the editor:
The third annual Taste of the North Shore took place on Wednesday, April 4, at Acura of Peabody.
The event, a fundraiser for the North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN, was a great success, raising over $25,000 to help ensure quality care to cancer patients at North Shore Medical Center in Salem and the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers.
We could not have had nearly as much success had it not been for the generosity of all of the local restaurants that provided delicious food for the evening, including 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar, Salem; Cape Ann Brewing Co., Gloucester; Capt's Waterfront Premium Steak & Seafood Grill, Salem; Century House, Peabody; Henry's Market, Beverly; Legal Sea Foods, Peabody; Pellana, Peabody; Red Lulu Cocina & Tequila Bar, Salem; Red Rock Bistro & Bar, Swampscott; Salem Waterfront Hotel & Marina; Short Cakes, Middleton; Treadwell's World Famous Ice Cream, Peabody; and Victoria Station, Salem.
We are also extremely grateful to the several area businesses that donated items for our silent and live auctions.
Kim Carrigan, Emmy award-winning media personality, generously donated her time to serve as auctioneer for the event, which proved to be a lively time and raised thousands of dollars for the cause.
I would also like to thank the 2012 Steering Committee for the North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN, including 2012 WALK chair Jason Maxwell of MassPay; Joel Avery of Acura of Peabody; Patrick Belmonte and JoAnn Gillette of North Shore 104.9 FM; Lisa Carbone of Eastern Bank; Denis Garriepy of Walsh Brothers; Kevin Noyes of People's United Bank; Jason Sevinor of Designer Bath and Salem Plumbing Supply; and Judy Toner of Sagan Realtors.
Additionally, I'd like to express my gratitude to Joel Schwartz, M.D., Director of Oncology Services, and Jim McIntyre, M.D., Chief of Radiation Oncology, both of Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center, for their tireless dedication to not only their patients, but also assisting with outreach and fundraising.
