Letter: Tierney heedless on health care

The Salem News

---- — To the editor:

I am disappointed about our continued health care problems in Massachusetts. Although four and a half months have passed since the rollout of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act —”Obamacare” — our fellow Massachusetts residents are still saddled with unstable health care plans. A recent report from MITRE, a Bedford-based IT consulting firm, confirmed our concerns that the Massachusetts Health Connector website is an unreliable and ineffective tool for our friends and neighbors seeking to get health care coverage.

Despite numerous reports about the failures of Obamacare, Congressman John Tierney continues to defend its rollout and ignores its negative impact on our district. Congressman Tierney has put party politics over the best interests of a state that already designed a fully functioning health care system. He repeats party talking points from President Obama and Nancy Pelosi instead of listening to the individuals, families and small-business owners throughout the 6th District. He claims that premiums have gone down and that we can keep our doctors if our insurance plans switch. This is simply not the case. Furthermore, between 50,000 and 75,000 people in Massachusetts are not even sure if they are covered under Obamacare.

Congressman Tierney is not listening to us and is not addressing the facts on the ground. Richard Tisei is an independent-minded candidate who has worked with both Republicans and Democrats in the Massachusetts state Legislature to both design and successfully implement a fully functional health care plan that insured 97 percent of all Massachusetts residents. The voters of the 6th District need to send Richard Tisei to Washington to help fix this health care mess. Richard will harness his legislative experience and his true commitment to the people of this district to address our pressing health care needs.
