---- — To the editor:
I am writing to voice my support for Mike Cahill in the Beverly mayoral race.
I have known Mike for many years and know him to be a very honest, hardworking man with the highest integrity. This is the type of leader Beverly needs and deserves.
I live on a street that will be directly impacted by the Brimbal Avenue project being discussed almost daily in this newspaper. I am scared to death of the scope of the current proposal and the ramifications we will face in the very near future because of decisions already made without citizen involvement.
In electing the next mayor of this city, we need to truly understand the following: Mike has been honest and forthright with his thoughts on this project. His opponent has not. Mike wants to involve anyone who wishes to be in figuring this out in a way that works. If he had been elected mayor two years ago, we would already have been informed and involved.
Wes Slate is part of the mess we are in now. He voted for the zoning “overlay” for the parcel of land being developed. He voted in favor of the land-swap request sent to the state. Yet, now he is telling us he is “unsure” about the project. Why? Because he is trying to sway us into thinking he will not push this through as is if he is elected mayor. This is just not true. He has voted with the current mayor on every vote related to this project and been part of the effort to keep citizens in the dark up to now.
I am tired of the lack of openness, integrity and communication citizens have faced on nearly every major project in Beverly over the past 10 years and more. In looking at the future of Brimbal Avenue, and the future of the city of Beverly as a whole, I want a mayor who is honest and transparent and will truly make sure our voices are heard — on this project and on every project.
I am voting for Mike Cahill. I hope you will, too.
